Inaugurated in June 2005 by Professor Fiona Wood, the Peel Health Foundation (previously known as the Peel Health Campus Foundation) was established with the aim of raising much-needed funds to address the present and future health needs of the Peel region.
After successfully raising funds for the building of the Ralph and Patricia Sarich Paediatric Wing the Peel Health Foundation Directors set about the task of identifying the un-met health needs of the community. The Foundation Directors undertook a series of Community Consultation workshops which included representatives from the Health Department’s South Metropolitan Area Health Service. After broad consultation it was identified that a mobile health service would provide a much needed service to the wider rural communities in the Peel region. Potential services for the mobile clinic include women and children’s services, mental health, chronic disease services, dental care, aged care services and diabetes health.
The Peel Health Foundation, in partnership with major sponsors Alcoa of Australia and Mandurah Barbagallo Volkswagen, has set a fund-raising target of $250,000 to cover the purchase and fit-out of the mobile service.
The Foundation Directors hope that with the financial support of the Peel Community the service may commence in mid-2012.
The provision of Mobile Health Services is a relatively new health care model that has taken off in many parts of the world and with the rapid expansion of technology we will see more of these initiatives. The vehicle used to deliver this service will have equipment designed that will be interchangeable to meet the needs of the service being delivered on a day by day basis.
The Foundation’s aim is to raise the funds to ensure a state of the art service for people close to their own homes.
Your involvement, contributions and commitment to this worthy cause are extremely significant and highly valued.
